CAP Ventures Explores Universal Copiers & Printers (UCPs) in New Multi-Client Study

(Weymouth, MA) August 19, 2003…With the migration to digital copiers and printers almost complete, the next big thing in the office will be the migration to “universal” copiers and printers (UCPs), which are capable of competitively printing or copying in color as well as black & white. CAP Ventures will investigate the impact of the universal copier/printer in a landmark multi-client study entitled Universal Office Copiers & Printers: Worldwide Market Opportunities and Product Requirements.

CAP Ventures believes that UCPs represent the best opportunity for sustained growth of office equipment placements and service and supplies revenue streams. “There are millions of workgroup printers and copiers installed worldwide producing billions of pages per year,” commented Jeff Hayes, a Director at CAP Ventures. “Moving a portion of this installed based to universal devices and a portion of the page volume to color will be worth billions of dollars to equipment manufacturers, supplies vendors, and the distribution channel.”

“More importantly, those vendors that best understand the nature of this window of opportunity realize that it represents a unique period to gain share in an increasingly competitive market. This study provides companies with the in-depth research and analysis to guide their product development, pricing, marketing, and distribution strategies,” Mr. Hayes continued.

The research will include over 750 interviews with office equipment decision-makers to determine market interest, product requirements, price sensitivity, applications, brand preferences, channel preferences, and other factors influencing the adoption of universal office equipment. The surveys will be conducted worldwide in North America, Western Europe, and Japan.

Analysts will also conduct surveys with office equipment dealers and resellers of black & white and color office copiers and printers to understand the perspectives that the dealer channel has relating to UCP devices.

The study will focus on the workgroup environment for equipment that produces between 10 and 70 pages per minute. CAP Ventures will provide a worldwide market size and forecast for universal office copying and printing equipment, services, and supplies by key product segments.

The forecast will include placements, installed base, and revenue projections for each category. Particular emphasis will be placed on understanding the rate of transition from single-function and conventional multifunctional devices.

The research will identify market segments, critical success factors, customer requirements, usage patterns, purchase plans, and other items that will drive vendors’ product, service, marketing, and sales activities.

This study is designed to assist technology vendors and distributors of office copying and printing equipment enter and succeed in the UCP market. Companies can now arrange for advanced participation at a discounted price and help direct the focus of the research. CAP Ventures will deliver Universal Office Copiers & Printers: Worldwide Market Opportunities and Product Requirements   during the first quarter of 2004.
