CAP Ventures Launches New Study on Photo Printing in the Home

(Weymouth, MA) June 10, 2003... CAP Ventures, Inc., the leading strategic consulting and market research firm for the business and visual communications industry, today announced the launch of its latest multi-client study entitled Photo Printing in the Home: A European Perspective. This landmark study will outline the key opportunities and threats for companies in the digital photography and photo printing market space.

"After nearly 50 years of stability in the photo printing market, the rules are changing," commented Catherine Charlery, European Group Director at CAP Ventures. "Digital photography and digital printing are reshaping the market landscape."

The European digital camera market reached $2.6 billion in 2002 and represented 31.1% of the total worldwide revenue. How fast is it growing now? How will digital camera users behave when faced with more printing choices, such as printing at home, in kiosks or minilabs, online, or not printing at all? How will cameras in cell phones and wireless imaging change market dynamics? CAP Ventures' detailed primary research study will answer these questions and help vendors understand the market's trends, opportunities, and threats.

CAP Ventures' study will provide a road map for vendors currently in the photo printing space, and for newcomers seeking to capitalize on changes in the market. The study will help in areas such as:

  • Evaluating the current size of the digital camera and photo printing market in Europe
  • Segmenting the market by key customer and product attributes
  • Understanding photo print usage trends, consumer behaviour, and output preferences
  • Identifying key barriers and enablers for more consumer digital photo printing
  • Assessing current market penetration, market share, and brand preference

The study will contain 5-year market forecasts for digital cameras, home photo printers, ink, and photo paper in Western Europe. It will conduct proprietary research with 600 consumers across major countries in Europe. Consumers will be surveyed on their usage and perceptions regarding digital photo printing. Additionally, CAP Ventures and InfoTrends analysts will combine years of data from the traditional photo industry with new data and assumptions about digital camera users to redefine demographics and psychographics for photo-taking population segments.
