Networked Digital Displays and In-Store TV: A New Advertising Medium for the 21st Century

(Weymouth, MA) January 23, 2002…CAP Ventures announced its upcoming forum, Narrowcasting in Public Spaces: A New Medium for Retail and Out-of-Home Advertising, coming this April 17, 2002 (preceding GlobalShop). Networked digital displays and in-store TV (narrowcasting) is the most important new medium for visual merchandising and point-of-purchase advertising.

“Narrowcasting technologies and networks are changing how brand managers and retailers can reach and interact with customers. This new channel arrives at an opportune time as the effectiveness of traditional broadcast TV advertising continues to erode,” said Norman McLeod, a Director at CAP Ventures, Inc.

Retailers, brand marketers, and advertising executives are facing critical decisions on implementing and utilizing networked digital displays and in-store television systems. To tap into this powerful medium, you will need to choose from an array of display technologies, network and systems vendors, business models, and content partners.

The forum will include presentations from industry leaders Clarity Visual Systems,  Electrograph Systems,  Scala, and  Transvision. Discussion panels on network operation, display technology, and control technologies will provide additional insights from leading companies in those fields and offer question and answer opportunities. A presentation from CAP Ventures will highlight results from its landmark research study on narrowcasting. In addition, a dedicated exhibit area will allow attendees to network with vendors and view new products and services.

"Clarity's sponsorship of the Forum on Narrowcasting represents its commitment to the development of this new communications media, Digital Visual Messaging (DVM). The research done by CAP Ventures will help to validate what has been a primary focus for Clarity for the last six years. As a pioneer in this market, Clarity is focused on growing DVM to make this new media ubiquitous in every retail outlet, mall, or public advertising venue," explained Tony Dillon, Vice President of Consumer Messaging for Clarity Visual Systems.

“We are very excited about the Forum. This is the first real opportunity, and joint effort, that companies in the dynamic signage industry have had to discuss the vast opportunities we provide,” said Jeff Porter, Chief Executive Officer of Scala, Inc.

"The CAP Ventures Forum on Narrowcasting in Public Spaces is the perfect venue for the retail industry to learn about the growing use of digital signage. This is why Electrograph has chosen this Forum to introduce the "Dynamic Displays" initiative, which is being supported by a consortium including NEC Technologies and eK3,” commented Carl Mandelbaum, Vice President of Marketing at Electrograph Systems, Inc. "This is an excellent educational opportunity for newcomers to learn the secrets to success in this existing growth area."

Other sponsors and exhibitors include Fred Systems,  i-Open,  MarketForward,  Premier Retail Networks (PRN), Samsung Electronics America,  SKYTRON, and Visual Circuits. All will share experiences highlighting the opportunities and challenges for retailers, brand managers, and advertising agencies.
