The penetration of network scanners has increased since 2004. In the current survey, 34% of respondents report having a network scanner, compared to 16% of the 2004 survey respondents who indicated they had a network scanner. The increase in penetration of network scanners is actually going to enable some companies to ease their employees' entry into scanning by enabling the usage that distributed users can relate to for their individual productivity: scanning for e-mailing purposes and scanning to a file. We believe for some companies with low volumes, this is a starting point to enabling digitization of paper documents. The next step would be to install solutions for specific work processes, with organized methods for storing, accessing, and using digital information most efficiently. Distributed users who have started using scanning for their personal productivity will experience less of a learning curve or compliance issue when requested to begin scanning important documents regularly as part of managing the business.
