InfoTrends’ 2009 Photo Printing End-User Survey Offers Encouraging Advice


(Weymouth, MA) November 30, 2009 . . .While the overall photo printing market has seen growth decline in recent years, a large percentage of the population is still printing photos, and InfoTrends’ research indicates that print volumes generated by these consumers will remain steady over the next couple of years. Households with children, family memory keepers, and hobbyists tend to be more active photo printers, and many of these people are using various printing solutions and purchasing higher-value photo merchandise items.

David Haueter, an Associate Director at InfoTrends, stated, “There are still bright spots in the photo print market, and there are many things vendors can do to encourage consumers to print more photos. For instance, vendors could drive more activity by touting the archival benefits of photo printing. The majority of consumers today are using folders on their computer as their primary method for storing digital photos, but this is not a viable long-term storage method. These prints could easily be lost as a result of computer viruses or hard drive crashes. In addition, online sites also go out of business, and CDs and DVDs have a limited life. As old-fashioned as it may seem in today’s electronic world, the photo print is still the best long-term solution for storing and archiving important photos.”
