(Weymouth, MA; Luton, U.K.) October 16, 2009 . . . The results of InfoTrends’ 2009 European Digital Photography Survey revealed some intriguing variations for each of the countries surveyed, which included France, Germany, the United Kingdom, Poland, and Russia. In the past, this survey focused specifically on Western European countries, but we have since expanded our focus to include some Eastern European countries. This year’s survey provides an “East versus West” perspective to offer greater insight into Europe’s digital photography market. Interestingly, despite the considerably lower household incomes of those in Eastern Europe, digital SLRs were more prevalent in Poland and Russia than in Western Europe. In fact, Russia represents a fresh opportunity across the entire digital imaging spectrum, as these consumers are notable photo enthusiasts. In addition to having the highest DSLR ownership rate, Russian respondents reported capturing the most photos, printing the most photos, spending the most on their cameras and using the video-clip feature on their cameras most frequently. Mette Eriksen, a Director at InfoTrends, commented, “The important thing to remember is that the European market cannot be treated as a single entity. It consists of a wide variety of countries and cultures, and consumers from different regions will demand different things. While many Russian consumers are tech-savvy early adopters and hobbyists, late adopters are prevalent in Germany. Industry vendors should strive to understand the differences between the European countries so they can offer the products that best suit their unique needs.” InfoTrends’ report, 2009 European Digital Photography Survey: Digital Cameras and Photo Printing, reveals detailed information on what consumers in various countries in Europe are seeking in terms of digital photography. This report offers insight on Internet users’ digital camera ownership, usage, and applications. It includes information pertaining to digital cameras, camera phones, digital photo frames, photo merchandise, software, photo printing, and future purchasing intentions.
