(Weymouth, MA) August 14, 2009 . . . InfoTrends has released a new market estimate and forecast for the inkjet coder market worldwide. The report estimates and forecasts the markets in four regions—North America, EMEA, Asia Pacific, and Latin America—and globally, for the years 2008 through 2013. This forecast includes unit shipments and installed base for each of the main inkjet coding technologies, cut by primary and secondary coding applications. It also includes revenues at the end-user level from sales of coder systems as well as from sales of fluids, parts, and service. Inkjet coders are a long established market for inkjet technology in all regions. While this market has been hurt worldwide by the recession, normal growth rates are expected to resume within two years. “Most markets have experienced obvious declines in unit shipments over the last twelve months, as customers have held off on purchases,” said Bob Leahey, Associate Director at InfoTrends and author the report. “We believe, though, that the markets will improve as the economy does,” Leahey added. As was the trend before the recession, the most substantial growth rates are expected to occur in Asia Pacific and Latin America, and for the small but growing share of the market that is based on thermal inkjet technology. Collectively, inkjet coders address the logistic needs of a huge array of products, from foods and beverages to fast moving consumer dry goods to building materials and electronic parts. This makes inkjet a high profile printing technology across all manufacturing categories. It is also a “direct marking” technology because it is able to directly mark the product or its primary package (“primary coding”), which is normally non-porous substrates such as plastic, or the product’s secondary packaging (“secondary coding”), which is normally corrugated boxes. Coders based on continuous inkjet (CIJ) are the backbone of primary product coding and make up the biggest part of the market in units and value. At the same time, piezoelectric inkjet, thermal inkjet (TIJ), and valvejet technologies play key parts in primary coding and secondary coding applications as well.
