(Weymouth, MA) June 09, 2009 . . . InfoTrends’ Digital Peripherals Solutions Europe Consulting Service has released its annual office equipment device forecast for Western Europe. The five-year outlook for single and multifunction A4 & A3 output devices for the home & office covers laser, led, and inkjet technologies. The office equipment market suffered a significant decline in 2008. In fact, InfoTrends’ annual market analysis shows that the number of placements of new devices in Western Europe declined -24% in 2008. Inkjet devices, typically used in home environments, were the hardest hit. Placements of devices using electrophotographic technology (i.e. laser & led) dropped to just over 8 million devices. “Based on the effects of the financial crisis,” stated Deborah Hawkins, Senior Consultant at InfoTrends, “we expect another decline in new device placements during 2009 before we begin to see some light at the end of the tunnel.” Although the total market is expected to decline slightly over the forecast period, there will be bright spots, including A4 based devices and colour equipment placements. The latter has been a major trend for a number of years as colour has become more affordable with devices now available in all price ranges. The shift to A4 devices is another significant trend. Traditional copier vendors offering A3 based devices will increasingly see their portion of the total market shifting to A4 as business users recognise that the A3 function is often not a necessity and that they can save money by using a greater proportion of A4 devices and pay-per-use charging models.
