Many industries have been hit hard by the economic downturn, and the production copying and printing market in Western Europe is no exception, as it experienced overall declines in placements from 2007 to 2008. Even process color placements, which have driven the market in previous years, declined. Nevertheless, process colour is being perceived as a new source of business opportunities, and colour purchases should pick up again as the pressure to move to colour from monochrome will continue to affect the market. Despite the challenges this market is facing, there were pockets of growth. Almost unaffected from lower placements in other segments, production colour printers with a 10 Million+ duty cycle grew at an even higher rate than forecasted in 2008.
