(Weymouth, MA) April 21, 2009 . . . In terms of product introductions, 2008 was a milestone year for industrial inkjet printing of ceramic tiles. Several new suppliers introduced their first systems based on piezoelectric heads and kiln-curable ceramic inks, and two others showed products for commercial launch in 2009. Like the construction industry around it, the tile industry is being affected by the economic downturn, and this in turn is affecting the outlook for piezoelectric inkjet in tile manufacturing. Nevertheless, the long-term prospect for industrial inkjet printing in tile manufacturing remains quite good. This is particularly apparent in parts of Europe that are the epicenter of the world’s tile manufacturing market. InfoTrends has released a new report entitled Industrial Inkjet Printing of Ceramic Tiles: Overview and Outlook that provides an update on this intriguing corner of the inkjet market. While the printing of tiles with UV curing inkjet is a well-known specialty application for UV flatbeds, that type of tile printing is not the focus of this report. UV flatbeds can indeed print onto tile, and normally with beautiful results. Nevertheless, UV flatbeds are not used in tile manufacturing because UV cured inks cannot withstand the heat of an industrial kiln. This document focuses instead on piezoelectric systems used in tile manufacturing plants. These systems are dedicated to tile printing and rely on inks (normally pigmented) that are specifically qualified for jetting onto tiles during their manufacture. This report discusses:
