(Weymouth, MA) April 15, 2009 . . . According to InfoTrends’ latest forecast, the share of consumer photo prints produced via retail methods in the U.S. will grow steadily over the next few years. In fact, retail photo print volume is projected to grow from 51% of the total print market in 2007 to over 61% by 2013. Although InfoTrends' research has shown that consumers print most frequently at home, they generally print small batches of photos at home, opting to use retail methods for larger quantities. Within the retail market itself, there are various print methods. Net-to-retail has already emerged as the most popular method for getting retail prints, followed by kiosk input terminals. InfoTrends predicts that net-to-retail will continue to be the most popular method for fulfilling retail print orders, and will continue to grow its portion of the retail market through the forecast period. This method offers a combination of cost and convenience to customers, as it enables them to avoid the shipping costs of home delivery while allowing them to order prints from the comfort of their own home and on their own schedule. David Haueter, an Associate Director at InfoTrends, commented, “Recent respondents to InfoTrends’ surveys indicated that two of the main reasons they print at retail are that they expect the prints to be higher quality and also have greater longevity. Combined with the tangible aspect of the printed photo, this medium also presents an attractive option for archival and storage. All vendors in this market, whether they are home printer vendors, online sites or retail photofinishers, may drive consumers to print more by educating their customers on the longevity of prints as compared to other storage options such as CD/DVD, hard drives and online sites.” InfoTrends’ report, U.S. Consumer Photo Prints Market Forecast: 2008 – 2013, estimates volumes and revenue for prints made at home, online, retail, and work, as well as their relative growth rates through the forecast period. It also forecasts prints by the capture device. In addition, this report includes commentary on the impact of consumer printing trends on the market, with relevant information taken from InfoTrends’ various consumer surveys.
