InfoTrends to Conduct Multi-Client Study on Digital Printing Opportunities for Photo-Intensive Business Applications

(Weymouth, MA) March 13, 2009 . . . Photo imaging technology vendors (equipment, software, finishing, paper manufacturers), print service providers, and retail photofinishers are looking for new opportunities to grow their business. While consumer photo books, calendars, and greeting cards are providing an important lift in the market, InfoTrends believes that photo-intensive business applications offer another significant revenue source. Examples of these types of documents include booklets, brochures, catalogues, calendars, postcards, commemorative books, photo books, yearbooks, and directories.

The majority of these documents are produced by commercial printers in centralized facilities on offset presses using traditional production processes and creative specialists. With the advent of digital photography, digital presses, and Web-to-print design and fulfillment operations, much of the market is shifting to digital production methods. InfoTrends also believes there are emerging opportunities for retail print service providers and “do-it-yourself” solutions to serve many small and micro-businesses. In addition, business applications for photo-intensive documents have attributes that make them attractive compared to consumer photo books, cards, and calendars, such as less reliance on seasonal sales.

To gain insight into this emerging opportunity, InfoTrends is conducting a multi-client study entitled Business Applications for Photo Publishing: Digital Printing Opportunities for Photo-Intensive Documents. This study will provide technology vendors and print service providers with the insights they need to understand the opportunities and develop the market for digital production of photo-intensive business and commercial applications in the United States. It will:

  • Segment and profile the market for photo-intensive business applications in the promotional and publishing segments
  • Identify and profile the most lucrative photo-intensive business applications
  • Identify and profile key industry players
  • Forecast the market for digitally printed photo-centric business applications by focusing on the following three areas:
    - Printing equipment
    - Page volume by application category in the promotional and publishing segments
    - Retail value of print by application category in the promotional and publishing   segments
  • Identify opportunities and strategies for technology vendors and service providers

Research work will include in-depth interviews and structured Web-based surveys of medium to large companies across key industries and small/micro business owners who create and utilize photo-intensive applications. Each survey will establish the penetration of photo-centric publishing applications and provide insight into end-user attributes, purchase motivators and behavior, product awareness, and other factors influencing the growth of photo-intensive printing in the business world.

Early subscriber discounts are available until April 13, 2009. Clients that sign up early will be able to review and provide input on the interview guides. For more information, please contact Matt O’Keefe at ext. 115 or via e-mail at .
