(Weymouth, MA) February 04, 2009 . . . Despite the recent economic downturn, the office document technology industry will likely play a crucial role in the next business cycle. In addition, this economic turmoil will make emerging and developing markets the prime targets for organic growth. As the office document technology market continues to show signs of flat growth in unit placements and increased erosion of profit margins in developed markets such as the U.S. and Western Europe, vendors must find new sources of revenue. Emerging markets such as Brazil, Russia, India, and China (BRIC) present a very good opportunity for the office document technology industry. In fact, ODT revenues in the BRIC region are projected to reach $16.5 billion by 2012. That said, effectively gaining revenue and market share in these regions requires understanding their underlying dynamics as well as more recent and broader economic factors. While the BRIC countries represent viable markets for the office document technology industry, these countries have unique idiosyncrasies ranging from governmental regulations to purchasing requirements of customers. Knowledge of these country specific variations is vital to gaining access to these markets. InfoTrends’ new study, Emerging Markets for the Office Document Technologies (“ODT”) Industry: A Study of Brazil, Russia, India and China, is designed to provide a comprehensive view of the office document technology market in each of the BRIC countries, highlighting opportunities for solutions, hardware, and supplies vendors as well as resellers and distributors. InfoTrends’ Group Director Jon Reardon commented, “It is extremely important to understand the behaviors and variations that are characteristic of emerging markets. In particular, in Russia there is a widespread belief that color is unnecessary. While vendors should strive to educate the Russian market on the value of color, they should also embrace the acceptance of monochrome and focus on those areas that remain important to office users in Russia—equipment price, reliability, and performance.” Research for this study consisted of a telephone-delivered structured survey with 306 qualified responses from Brazil, 303 from Russia, 302 from India, and 303 from China as well as in-depth interviews with end-users, vendors, channels, and government regulatory agencies. In addition, these studies include valuable forecast data in terms of hardware, supplies, and software solutions from InfoTrends’ Digital Peripherals Solutions, Communication Supplies, and Network Document Solutions Consulting Services. The results provide essential knowledge for vendors that wish to expand their profits by tapping into these up and coming markets. Clients have the option to purchase studies on individual countries or as a bundled package. For more information please contact Scott Phinney at ext. 123 or via e-mail at .
