Worldwide Wide Format Toner-Based Printer Market Bolstered by Growth of Low-End Segment

(Weymouth, MA) October 07, 2008 . . . According to InfoTrends’ research, the worldwide wide format toner-based printer market is expected to experience slow but sustained growth through 2012, as shipments are projected to reach nearly 55,000 units in 2012.

InfoTrends’ 2008 Wide Format Toner-based Printer-Copier Market Forecast reveals that some specific underlying market dynamics are bolstering this growth. The shift to lower-end shipments is the most influential of all of the market trends in the wide format toner-based business. InfoTrends finds that companies are increasingly taking wide format technical document production in-house, which reduces the market requirement for large centralized reprographic departments that are the primary location of mid-range and high-end digital equipment.

In addition, InfoTrends included the color segment for the first time ever in this annual forecast due to the release of color toner-based printing systems from 2 vendors as well as the anticipated introduction of other products in this segment from other vendors. These devices are expected to have a significant impact on the overall market, achieving astounding growth rates. Nevertheless, InfoTrends’ Group Director Tim Greene commented, “While these color toner-based wide format printers are just now entering the market, they appear to meet the growing demand for color technical documents. At this point, it is difficult to predict the volume of print that these models will produce because the price structure would suggest that these are all “high-end” devices. The speeds of the devices, however, generally suggest a lower volume.” He continued, “These printers represent the first generation of products. InfoTrends expects that future models will be lower-priced, so they would appeal to a wider set of print-for-use establishments.”

This forecast includes projections for hardware shipments, populations (or machines-in-field), hardware revenues, supplies units, and supplies revenues through 2012. For more information or to make a purchase, visit our online store or contact Robyn Wuori at +1 ext. 103 or via e-mail at .
