Ground Breaking Multi-Client Study from InfoTrends Reveals 40% of CAD Users Expect Their Color Printing to Grow

According to a landmark multi-client study from InfoTrends entitled, The CAD Software Market and Its Related Document Output: A Multi-Client Study, 40% of CAD users expect their use of color in CAD printing to grow over the next three years. What’s more, 55% expect their use of color to remain the same, while only 5% project that it will decline. This is significant for the industry because increasing use of color grows the value of wide format technical documents even if total wide format technical document page volume is dropping. When segmented by industry, architectural firms, government agencies, and utilities companies project the most notable increases in color printing. Among print applications, GIS is the leading driver of color printing.

The multi-client study in which this data was revealed aims to determine the market requirements and opportunities for products and services used to create, print, capture, manage, share, and store technical drawings, images, schematics, renderings, and models across the architectural, engineering, construction, and manufacturing sectors. It examines a number of significant issues and discusses their potential impact. These issues include:

  • Viewing vs. printing technical information
  • Standardization of file formats for technical documents
  • Incorporating color in wide format technical documents
  • Convergence of software and Web-based services
  • Streamlining processes to improve productivity, eliminate errors, and reduce cycle time
  • Compliance, regulatory, and security requirements
  • Managing distributed resources – software, devices, and people

The study evaluated the current state of the technical document products and services market as well as the direction it might take in the future. It provides sound data on which industry professionals can base their future growth strategies and initiatives. To gain this information, InfoTrends collaborated with Cadalyst Magazine to conduct a Web-based survey of their U.S. subscribers. 2,938 users of CAD software participated in the study.
