InfoTrends Releases Four Digital Peripherals Forecasts

Color and Multifunctional Units Remain Growth Areas

(Weymouth, MA) July 16, 2007…InfoTrends has released a set of four digital peripherals forecasts that provide an outlook from 2006 to 2011 for the United States copier, fax, digital duplicator, and printer markets.

InfoTrends’ U.S. Copier Market Forecast: 2006-2011 provides an in-depth placement and revenue forecast for the U.S. copier market. This document covers black & white and color copiers and includes placements, installed base, and hardware revenue by industry segment.

The forecast reveals that although the copier market is mature, there are some areas of growth. Monochrome placements are projected to experience a slight decline, while placements of color copiers will continue to increase at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 18.8%. In total, color revenue is expected to increase at a CAGR of 22.4% over the forecast period.

The U.S. Fax Market Forecast: 2006-2011 indicates that the fax market has reached an advanced state of maturity, and with each passing year it will fall further behind the mainstream imaging market. E-mail, scan to e-mail, network scanning, and network fax have all gained widespread acceptance as inexpensive and efficient alternatives. Traditional fax devices remain a part of most offices, but they are being seen in smaller numbers. Fax capability is also being delivered from a different platform, namely MFPs with platens.

The information in the Fax Market Forecast is presented by environment as well as by the traditional market segments of Personal low-volume, mid-volume, and high-volume fax products. The document covers single-function as well as multifunctional equipment.

The U.S. Digital Duplicator Forecast provides forecast estimates for 2006 through 2011. It covers single-function as well as multifunctional placements, year-end and average installed base figures, and average unit street prices for digital duplicators. In addition, InfoTrends has included estimated average monthly page volumes and total simplex pages, as well as total annual hardware revenue and total supply revenue estimates for the forecast period.

The outlook for the U.S. digital duplicator market calls for modest declines in placements and revenues. In 2011, total revenue is projected to be valued at $499.23 million. Digital duplicators target a very narrow niche within the imaging market, and competition from digital copiers poses an ongoing threat to their prospects for growth.

InfoTrends’ Printer Market Forecast projects that color and multi-functional units will remain prime growth areas in the U.S, however, single-function Workgroup printer placements achieved strong growth in 2006. Placements of Workgroup page printers and multifunctional products rose 2.3% to reach 5.69 million units in 2006. The inkjet market has also experienced steady growth fueled by the continued popularity of photo-centric printers and MFPs.

“Within the printer space, vendors are attacking the SMB [small- and medium-sized business] market from all angles by introducing compelling products with attractive feature sets and high price/performance value,” commented Bob Palmer, a Director at InfoTrends. “This has fostered significant growth in placements of color page printers and multifunctional devices.”
