InfoTrends Releases Highly Anticipated Multi-Channel Communications Study Update

Study Reveals 50% of Business Content Requires Multi-Channel Delivery

(Weymouth, MA) October 2, 2006… InfoTrends has just released its highly anticipated study entitled Multi-Channel Communications: The Content Publishing Workflow Challenge. The study analyzes key trends with respect to document and content solutions as well as outline components involved in cross-media publishing initiatives.

The study examines the current multi-channel communications environment, past experiences with multi-channel communication implementations, content and enterprise management strategies, requirements for additional multi-channel implementations, and multi-channel communication solutions plans. The study also includes case studies of Cruise West, Gulfstream Aerospace, and Siemens Building Technologies, Inc. These case studies serve as practical examples of proper MCC implementations and their measurable benefits.

“With 50% of business content requiring multi-channel delivery, organizations are beginning to centralize their content strategies and infrastructures, utilize new delivery channels, and standardize their content workflows,” commented Michael Maziarka, a Director at InfoTrends. “Our updated study will provide vendors and users with the information necessary to communicate more consistently and efficiently through multiple touch points.”

Key findings from the study include:

  • More than 55% of respondents have (or are developing) an enterprise content management strategy, but with diverse views of what that means relative to vendor and product deployment.
  • Over 50% of all content is initially developed for electronic delivery first. By 2008, this number is expected to exceed 65%.
E-mail has surpassed print, and internally-facing Web sites have eclipsed their externally-facing counterparts relative to the amount of content delivered through those touch points.
  • Use of structured text (XML) is encouraging a component-based, single-repository model to deliver internal and external content—over 60% of respondents indicated that XML will be used in their multi-channel solutions.
  • Solutions that have been deployed to facilitate multi-channel communications have netted greater than a 55% improvement in the speed for delivering information.

Research consisted of a survey of 313 IT and business professionals. Respondents’ roles ranged from project managers to C-level executives, and represented several industries and company sizes.
