New InfoTrends Forecast Reveals Continued Growth in Digital Photo Printing for Western Europe through 2009

(Luton, UK) September 7, 2006…According to new forecast data released by InfoTrends, the total volume of digital photo prints produced in 2005 by Western European consumers was 9.4 billion. The digital photo prints market is expected to grow to 11.9 billion in 2006. This significant growth can be primarily attributed to the increase in the installed base of digital cameras.

Although the total volume of digital photo prints is growing for the next couple of years, InfoTrends estimates that the market will peak in 2009 at 14.6 billion prints. The market will still remain stable or decline slightly, but it is unlikely that total print volume will grow significantly beyond 2010.

“Consumers can view digital photos in many ways, and printing is just one of those options. This is one of several reasons why InfoTrends does not expect digital print volume to reach the same levels as analogue print volume,” commented Mette Eriksen, an Associate Director at InfoTrends. “Nevertheless, photo printing will, for the foreseeable future, be a significant revenue generator. Factors such as lower print prices, increased consumer awareness of and interest in retail photo printing, and the increase in consumers who own and use digital cameras will bolster printing volumes.”

In terms of where people are printing, home represented the largest share of revenue and is expected to remain the lead generator of revenue through 2010. Retail printing volume, however, will grow faster than volume from any other print location through the forecast period.

InfoTrends’ forecast, entitled Western European Photo Prints Forecast: 2005-2010, sizes the Western European consumer market for all photo prints made from a digital source. The report breaks out photo print volume by location and by capture source, and breaks out revenue by location and by paper type. There are also forecasts for France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and the United Kingdom. Country forecasts are broken out by total volume and prints per household, revenue and average selling price per print, prints by location, and revenue by location.
