InfoTrends/CAP Ventures Examines the Steadily Growing Colour Page Printer Toner Cartridge Market in Western Europe

(Luton, UK) June 27, 2005… InfoTrends/CAP Ventures estimates that a total of 7.5 million cartridges (black and colour) were used in colour page printers in Western Europe during 2003. This number is expected to reach 36.5 million units by 2008, representing a CAGR of 31%.

The market for black cartridges is expected to reach 13.4 million units in 2008, whereas colour cartridge unit volume is predicted to climb from 5 million units in 2003 to 23.1 million units in 2008. Colour cartridge usage is greater than that of black because colour printing requires three colours (cyan, magenta, and yellow) that are counted separately.

InfoTrends/CAP Ventures’ new report entitled Colour Page Printer Toner Cartridge Market Trends in Western Europe provides an overview of the Western European colour page printing market and the growth potential for supplies in this market. The white paper concentrates on networked office environments rather than the colour production segment of the market. It considers the factors that are driving the development of the workgroup colour page printer supplies market, as well as those that are hindering greater growth.

According to the report, in 2003, the installed base of workgroup colour page printers in Western Europe stood at just over 973,000 units. By 2008, this number is expected to surpass 4 million. Falling printer prices, increased functionality, and improved speed are all drivers for this market’s huge growth.

“Although impressive, the growth rate within the installed base of colour laser printers has not been as rapid as was previously expected,” commented Norah Seery, Director at InfoTrends/CAP Ventures. “At the same time, it is now clear that competitive forces as well as a greater market development have brought the price points down enough to prompt some consumers to replace their monochrome devices with colour machines during the next few years.”
