CAP Ventures Research Indicates that Inkjet Solutions are Fueling Growth in the Large Format Digital Printing Market

(Weymouth, MA) October 22, 2003 ….The large format digital printing market is a large and exciting opportunity, growing at double the rate of the overall print industry. In CAP Ventures' new report entitledWorldwide Large Format Hardware and Supplies Forecast: Part I, analysts examine the large format market, forecast future growth rates, identify key growth segments, and discuss trends and developments in the industry.

Part one of the annual forecast covers three imaging technologies: aqueous inkjet, solvent-based inkjet, and laser/LED. Focus points within tvhe forecast include market overviews, hardware shipments, hardware populations, hardware revenues, inkjet revenues, inkjet volume, forecast tables, supplies, and media.

“The pace of innovations in existing large format digital printing technologies will remain as brisk as they have been for the past decade,” commented Tim Greene, Associate Director at CAP Ventures. “We believe that by the end of the forecast period, low-end format aqueous and solvent-based inkjet printers will be 2-3 times faster than today’s models, with superior resolution and the ability to print on a wider variety of substrates, all at half the cost.”

Several important findings from this forecast include:

  • Growth in the large format aqueous inkjet market has slowed to a single-digit pace, with unit shipments outpacing revenue growth.
  • The large format technical market parallels the office market, with multifunctional and color-capable printers replacing single-function monochrome units.
  • The explosion of new environmentally-friendly “eco-solvent” and robust solvent-based inkjet printers is driving growth of more than 20% per year.
  • Worldwide large format supplies revenues are expected to grow 5% per year despite price deflation and globalization.

Part two of the annual forecast, scheduled for delivery in December 2003, will examine the vertical markets adopting the three technologies of aqueous inkjet, solvent-based inkjet, and laser/LED on a segment-by-segment basis.

Part one of the forecast is available immediately to clients of CAP Ventures' Visual Communications Technologies Consulting Service. For more information on the report or to make a purchase, please contact Alison Hipp at , ext. 126 or via e-mail at .
