Scanner Sales Positioned for Growth in Rest of World, According to New Forecast by InfoTrends Research Group

(Weymouth, MA) February, 11 2003... Worldwide scanner revenues reached nearly $2.9 billion in 2002, with North America and Europe accounting for 37% and 36% of the total, respectively. While shipments in North America and Europe have already peaked, shipments in other regions are expected to steadily increase through 2007. By 2007, InfoTrends expects that the Rest of the World (ROW) will account for 35% of the total worldwide scanner market.

“Alternative solutions such as all-in-ones and digital cameras will continue to gradually erode consumer scanner shipments, but successful vendors will capitalize on replacement and upgrade sale opportunities,” said Kerry Flatley, a Research Analyst at InfoTrends Research Group. “Meanwhile, PC adoption by an emerging middle class in Rest of World regions is likely to drive growth.”

HP continues to be the worldwide market leader. Market share rankings vary by region and country, but Canon, Epson, and Visioneer also continue to capture substantial market share in nearly every region.

A new forecast report entitled “2002 Worldwide Mass Market Scanner Forecast” has been released and is available immediately. This report is an overview combining data and analysis from the individual reports that cover North America and Europe. It details worldwide mass market scanner shipments in units and revenues, scanner installed base, overall market trends, regional market share, and regional market size and trends.
