(Weymouth, MA) July, 16 2001... A new study from InfoTrends Research Group projects that the European Low End digital camera market (sub-1,000 Euro) is growing at a compound annual growth rate of 37% through 2006. Unit sales will grow from over 4 million in 2001 to 19.8 million in 2006. Revenues generated from digital camera sales will reach 1.7 billion Euro in 2001 and grow at a compound annual rate of 17% to reach 3.8 billion Euro in 2006. Germany, the UK and France are the three leading markets for digital cameras in Europe. In 2001, their combined share of the digital camera market will be 67%. This year will mark the first year that digital camera sales in Germany and the UK surpass 1 million units each. At this unit sales volume, digital camera sales are expected to capture about a quarter of the total camera market (film and digital combined, excluding one-time use cameras) in Germany and the UK. Increasingly, consumers in Europe are beginning to consider purchasing a digital camera. "Digital cameras are now available at a price/performance level that attracts mainstream consumers, in addition to photo and technology enthusiasts," says Michelle Slaughter, market research analyst for InfoTrends Research Group. "By 2004, digital cameras are expected to capture 54% of the total camera market in Europe." As the digital camera market continues to advance, it is becoming more competitive. Olympus has been the market leader since 1998; however, it will be challenged by Fuji in 2001 to maintain its leading position. Both Fuji and Sony, respectively the second and third ranked vendors in 2000, are making significant marketing efforts to increase their market share in Europe. The new report, "2001 European Low End Digital Camera Forecast," covers major trends in the sub-1,000 Euro digital camera market, and includes a five-year market forecast for digital camera unit shipments, revenues, vendor market share and unit shipments for eight major regions in Western Europe, including Germany, UK, France, Italy, Benelux, Iberia, Nordic and the Rest of Europe. The forecast also analyzes resolution trends. Additionally, the forecast provides projections for digital camera unit sales compared to film camera sales for six regions, including Western Europe, Germany, the UK, France, Italy and Iberia. The report is available immediately in hard copy and electronic format. |
