Document Imaging Scanner Market Gains Momentum as Distributed Capture Solutions, Color Adoption, and Online Distribution

(Weymouth, MA) November, 01 2000... The document imaging scanner market is projected to continue on a healthy growth path, in light of accelerating trends toward distributed capture and color scanning. High speed scanner shipments are projected to reach nearly 68,000 units in 2000, growing to 275,000 units by 2005. Developing online sales opportunities will help vendors meet user expectations, while extending their reach into new markets in the years ahead. The momentum coincides with growing interest from MFP and digital copier vendors, which is expected to generate growth in corporate scanning applications.

"The document imaging scanning arena is developing into a dynamic environment, after years of quietly revolving around a very limited market," said Susan Moyse, analyst for InfoTrends Research Group. "Industry players are driving growth by creating new ways to deploy image capture solutions and by guiding users toward higher image standards." To maintain the velocity, vendors will be required to aggressively seek new market opportunities, including online sales and corporate applications, while accelerating product development. The winners in the future market will be those companies that are able to grow with the changing needs of the traditional imaging customer base, while aggressively pursuing the prospects of an ever widening audience.

InfoTrends' annual report on the document imaging scanner industry, "2000 Document Imaging Scanner Forecast - North America" studies the dynamics of this evolving marketplace. The new report, available now, provides a comprehensive analysis, and identifies key trends and strategies for market success in each segment: workgroup, departmental, low volume production, mid volume production, and high volume production. Each of the five segments is analyzed in terms of five-year forecasts, market potential, and vendor performance. Individual projections are made for color, duplex, network, and connectivity capabilities.
