(Weymouth, MA) May 8, 2000…CAP Ventures, Inc. and GSM Corporation announced that the 2000 On Demand Printing Japan Conference and Exposition attracted its largest audience ever with 8,200 industry professionals in attendance. The record-breaking number is indicative of the burgeoning print-on-demand industry in Japan. "For three years T/R Systems has supported this CAP Ventures event in Tokyo. We have seen the event grow from a small conference with 75 attendees in 1998 to a conference and exhibition with over 8,000 industry professionals," commented Mike Kohlsdorf, President, T/R Systems. "The Japanese market for Print On Demand is exploding and the Japan On Demand Printing Conference and Exposition is the key educational event that will drive growth," Kohlsdorf continued. Key industry vendors, including several from Europe and the United States, showcased technology demonstrations on variable printing, cluster printing, digital black & white and color printing and finishing products. Other solutions, including direct marketing and CRM (customer relationship management) were also highlighted at the show. Several vendors took the opportunity to introduce their products that will be showcased during DRUPA this coming May 18 – 31, in Dusseldorf, Germany. Products announced included: cluster printing software from Epson, NEW PIXEL a color print on demand system from Canon, a new Xeikon CSP 320 D was showcased by Sakata Inx, and Fuji Xerox introduced a books on demand system. "The success of this event in Japan is further evidence that Print On Demand solutions will be quickly adopted in the domestic Japanese market," stated Charles A. Pesko, Managing Director, CAP Ventures. The conference portion of the show featured over 25 sessions covering a wide variety of print on demand topics. Industry professionals who were looking to learn more about the market and its future possibilities heavily attended the sessions. Conference attendance reached 3,200 people. "The enthusiasm and interest shown in the conference sessions illustrates that the domestic Japanese market is reaching a level of maturity and we believe this market will move quickly and have a faster adoption curve than what we have seen in North America and Western Europe," claimed Kazuhiro Yoshida, GSM Corporation.
