24+ppm Production Colour Segment Dominating POD Market Placements in the Netherlands

Similar to the year before and in line with the European trend, the 24+ ppm colour production market showed the highest placement growth rate in 2006. The Dutch 24+ ppm colour production market grew by 31.8%.

This market is moving toward ever-higher speeds, although it is dominated by light production and entry-level copiers / printers, which accounted for roughly 90% of all placements in 2006. It has become clear that there is less demand for light production devices than expected when looking at the European averages, but it should be remembered that the Dutch share of heavy production devices is higher than most European countries. There is a strong tendency to move upstream in terms of production colour speed, and InfoTrends expects an impressive 158% CAGR for the Production Colour Copier / Printer 60+ category between 2006 and 2011.

As production colour 24+ ppm devices now represent the majority of all POD placements, the market shares are being discussed by further subdivisions according to duty cycles.

The 0-100k duty cycle range is dominated by devices that are primarily targeted toward the office market. These devices offer excellent price-performance ratios, even though they lack robust production features. Many placements are the effect of churn in the 3-23 ppm installed base and now fall into this category. These products are a good choice for low-volume environments that are not too quality-critical. Most of the devices in this duty cycle range have been installed in office environments, as only 12.7% of all devices sold in The Netherlands in 2006 were reportedly installed in POD environments.
