The Global Print Production Workflow Software Market

Global Overview

InfoTrends expects the global production workflow software market to grow from $7.4 billion in 2006 to just over $12.6 billion in 2011, representing a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 11.3%.

This growth however does not tell the whole story about this market, as it has a combination of low revenue categories that depress overall growth and other revenue categories with stronger growth. Several in-scope software categories within the market are expected to experience considerable growth, as they are enablers of super efficiency and value-added services.

Digital print workflow management, variable data design, print e-business, and mail preparation software are among the software categories anticipated to show double digit growth. InfoTrends considers these solutions to be enablers of super efficiency and value added services for print service providers; therefore, they will present opportunities in this market.

Western European Market

Western European market will rise to €3.4 billion in 2011, representing a CAGR of 11.2%. Print controllers and RIPs for digital devices make up the largest portion of the Western European market at just over €0.62 billion in 2011.

Production-class creative applications also represent a sizeable segment and will grow at a double digit CAGR of almost 14%. The smallest category is hybrid offset/digital workflow. This category is still relatively new but is expected to show the highest growth over the forecast period, with a 66% CAGR.

North American Market

The largest geographical market for print production workflow software in 2006 was North America, accounting for almost half of all revenues. The North American market will demonstrate a CAGR of nearly 11%, increasing to $5.6 billion in 2011. As with the Western European market, print controllers and RIPs will account for the largest portion of the market, and the smallest category will be hybrid offset/digital workflow. InfoTrends expects the hybrid offset/digital print workflow software market to achieve a CAGR of nearly 58% over the forecast period, growing to $46 million in 2011.

North America is expected to be an early adopter of this software due to its early adoption of color digital printing technology, causing vendors to focus more on this software segment. The increasing mix of offset and digital printing equipment within most print service providers’ environments will be a key growth driver, as will automation and standard conformance.
