Wide Format Aqueous Inkjet Hardware Shipments

Market Overview

The wide format aqueous inkjet market is undergoing a substantial change as we enter the second half of 2004. InfoTrends/CAP Ventures expects the global wide format aqueous hardware and consumables market to grow from $3.9 billion in 2003 to $4.4 billion in 2008. New low-cost units for the prepress and photo markets and the increased demand for high-quality wide format printing applications are driving steady growth in the wide format aqueous inkjet market.

Hardware Shipments

The total number of wide format aqueous inkjet printers shipped is expected to grow from 200,800 units in 2003 to 238,500 units in 2008. This includes wide format printers for the graphics and technical markets.

Total wide format aqueous graphics printer shipments will demonstrate a CAGR of 7% over the forecast period. New low-end units are fueling shipment growth in the wide format aqueous inkjet graphics market.

The installed base of technical wide format aqueous inkjet printers will demonstrate a CAGR of 1%. Two major factors are contributing to this slow growth. The first is the slow penetration of color technology into technical applications and the second is that in many production environments, inkjet is not an acceptable solution. In these situations, there is an ongoing competition between inkjet and wide format laser/LED equipment for those wide format technical prints
